Details of the walk

Meeting in Godstone village by the horse pond across the road from the White Hart for a 10am start on Tuesday 1st September, Philip L will lead a circular walk of around 4 miles up on to the Greensand Way through Garston Park and back via the Enterdent and possibly Godstone Farm.

It is a little strenuous with several steepish uphill sections and several ups and downs. There are two stiles. The terrain is mostly paths and woodland, with very little road walking apart from at the start. The road collapse in Godstone High Street may well be fixed by the date of the walk!

Refreshments or lunch are available afterwards in a choice of places in Godstone.

It should be dry given the time of year but stout walking shoes are recommended.

If you'd like to join the walk please let Philip know by emailing him using the link above and he will confirm your place which is limited to 20 on a first come first served basis. Please include your mobile number in your email.

A little local flavour

There is a legend of Polly Paine, a resident of the Enterdent considered by many to be a witch who could turn herself into a cat or hare.  Legend has it that some hounds chased a hare that made its way past Polly Pains Cottage in the Enterdent where it leapt into a culvert of Stratton Brook.  Sadly having been badly bitten by a hound on the hind leg, it disappeared.  Next day, Polly was seen in the village, limping badly and unable to sit down.  The inevitable conclusion was drawn.
