The u3a Art Group now running was started by Fay Twomey (aka Elaine Prebble) in the conservatory of her home in Caterham Valley with a few keen artists. Fay, grew up in Horsham and had been teaching art most of her later life with pupils ranging from little children to young adults with difficult back grounds to adults. She was very good at encouraging artists. She adored all animals and rescued a great many Alsatian dogs over the years. Eventually the classes became so popular she had to move it to larger premises. Today there are at present just of 30 members some in their 80's and 90's and you will see the talent that is there. Fay herself was still teaching in her 90's.

I also need to acknowledge two other people for all they've done for u3a. They are Monica and Ron Giddens (more about them in the 'Additional Extras' section). The Entire Group in Caterham had reduced to 13 members and it was decided it should close down. However, Ron said his wife and he would take the task of promoting it. With their advertising and promoting it, it grew and now in total has almost a thousand members and and about 58 groups.
