Have you ever wondered how you would cope with an emergency illness or accident in the home or in a public place?
Patricia tells us...
Occasionally I run first aid sessions for any members who would like gain some knowledge, either as beginners or as a refresher course. I teach On Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings only, for about 2 hours, from 9 50am to noon. There are 2 to 4 people per session, sessions must be arranged in advance, with me.
My next availability for classes is during January February and March on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings
Depending on your previous experience I would expect from 1 to 3 sessions will be appropriate.
There is a one off charge of £3 which pays for mini Annie's lungs, not shared between people and disinfectant wipes. I serve refreshments, for 50p per session please .
My aim is to give you the confidence to deal quickly and appropriately with any situation involving a casualty. I teach you how to recognise when and what action is needed, and also when not to take inappropriate action.
Those who attended the excellent first aid sessions given by Patricia Barnard feel much more confident now.
A previous attendee reports....some of the things we learn are:;
CPR: how to check for danger, the casualty's response, airway and breathing, how to shout loudly for help and for someone to call an ambulance. We learned the correct way to perform chest compressions and rescue breaths and how to adapt this to young children and babies. We watched a video showing how to use a defibulator.
The Recovery Position: the correct conditions to use it, and how to turn the casualty so that they are safe, breathing and comfortable.
Bleeding and Shock: how to bandage the bleed and to raise the limbs.
Choking: how to use two techniques to treat adults and the different way to treat infants.
Plus other aspects of first aid including bites and stings.
It has been very interesting and enjoyable, and potentially important as - who knows - one day it might help to save a life!
